News: May 2017

Ted Hughes announced that the outdoor bowling was well under way with the first of the “friendlies”. Suffice to say that our team were runners up.

Our masterful Travel Organiser, Graham Hannen announced that there were still places on the trip to Carnforth and Leighton Hall and that final details for the holiday would be available at the beginning of June with final payments due by 13 th June.

This month’s Speaker was from “In House” by Max Higgs entitled “Fooling Around With Large Numbers”. The scepticism prevailing before Max took to the floor was understandable as many found maths boring and in many instances beyond their ken as the Scots say. What transpired was possibly one of the most fascinating talks the Club has witnessed.

Max gave examples of the part that numbers play in our everyday lives. He also highlighted comparative examples of huge numbers and times in relation to the galaxy that left members aghast. Max did add that his love of numbers is overshadowed by his total inability to remember names. Sound familiar??
