News: October 2016
Indoor bowling commenced on 12th October in Yoxall Hall, Haslington and is expected to be well supported.
Travel tours for 2016 have come to an end with overwhelming agreement that this year has been one of the most successful to date. This is thanks in no small measure to Graham Hannen, our tour organiser for his hard work and attention to detail. Graham reported that all the 2017 tours are in place and without giving too much away, said the holiday “would be in Hampshire”
The final tour was a taste of the lakes, another very well supported trip to Penrith. A highlight of the trip was a visit to Dalmain House, where the lady of the house welcomed the group in person. On the return journey, members carried copious quantities of local marmalade as souvenirs of the trip.
This month, the speaker slot took a different format with three club members having been asked to give a short 15 minute talk on a subject of their choice. Keith Towns led the way with a very detailed talk on life in Australia at very different social levels. He also spoke about Australian wildlife.
Next was President Howard Yates who, as a master butcher, spoke with considerable humour but also gave a fascinating history of the humble sausage.
Finally, Joe Wilson once again showed us his in depth knowledge of all things Sandbach. Joe’s talk traced the history of the annual Transport Festival in which he was very much involved, having been one of the organisers of the very first festival held on Palm Sunday, 1991. Joe remained part of the organising committee for the following nine years.
The next meeting will be in Badwall Village Hall on November 8th at 10.00am
