The end of season excursions came to an end with a wonderful three day visit to Norfolk. Probus members and their guests had their first stop at Melton Mowbray and of course a visit to “Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe” was a must for everyone, delicious, but after making pork pies for over 160 years you would expect them to be. Next stop was Stamford in Lincolnshire, described as the finest stone town in England and rated as the best place to live by “The Sunday Times”. Back on the bus and on to Norwich to The Wensum Valley Hotel, Golf and Country Club, an excellent choice. Friday evening was the highlight of the tour, The Thursford Christmas Spectacular Show with a cast of over one hundred musicians and dancers, a unique and memorable experience. On the final day we left for home via the beautiful historic city of Cambridge where we could admire the beautiful architecture, majestic college buildings and quaint passages. The Norfolk excursion was the highlight of the year and president Ray Lowe thanked Graham and Sandra Hannen, on behalf of the party, for their usual unrivalled excellent organisation.
Next years travel programme includes ‘The York Chocolate Story ‘ in April; ‘The Lake District’ in June; ‘The Welsh Highland Railway’ in October and a short holiday break in Northumberland in September.
The indoor bowling is now well underway at Haslington Yoxall Centre and also visits to Shrewsbury on the more demanding long mats.
Christmas was again celebrated at Hunter’ Lodge, almost 100 member and their guests enjoyed an excellent lunch. President Ray Lowe welcomed invited guests Philip Niddrie, President of the Rotary Club of Sandbach and Roy Ashton, President of the Saxon Cross Probus Club.
The club meets on the second Tuesday of the month, for more information on the club and the travel programme visit probus-sandbach.org.uk. JKT.
