The speaker this month was John Miller whose subject was walking Hadrian’s Wall Path from coast to coast. John was part of a small group who made the walk ten years ago in aid of The Ticker Club Charity. It was tough going and they haven’t rushed to repeat it. The Ticker Club was founded in 1987 by a group of former patients who had successfully undergone cardiac surgery at Wythenshaw Hospital.
They offer support throughout the area to patients and the families of those undergoing heart procedures. Over a period of 29 years, the club that is affiliated to the British Heart Foundation has raised £1,250,000 that has been spent on specialist equipment for Wythenshaw Hospital. It has also been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
