SANDBACH CHRONICLE July 2012
THE PROBUS CLUB OF SANDBACH
The speaker this month was Adam Partridge who gave a fascinating insight on “The Life of an Auctioneer”. Adam has an auction house in Macclesfield and also appears in numerous television programmes such as “Flog It” and “Bargain Hunt”. His recollections were both interesting and very humorous. Perhaps the highlight of his career so far was the sale of a 1785 Giuseppe Gagliano violin for £89,000. Members had many questions to ask Adam at the end of his excellent presentation but sadly no one had found a violin for valuation.
Long term member Joe Wilson was in the chair this month for the ‘Quick Quiz’. Joe revealed that 1963 was perhaps his most memorable year, he married his lovely wife Patricia and visited Australia to watch the Grand Prix as a guest of the Australian A.A.
In a joint initiative with Sandbach School several pupils have been introduced to crown green bowling in their lunch break. During a two month period, coaches Allday, Bone, Hannen, Watts and Yates, all veterans of the green, agreed that they had been impressed by the boys progress and aptitude for the game. Club President Donald Bone presented each pupil with a Probus Certificate of Achievement.
Green keeper, Neil Pardoe recently retired after 32 years at Sandbach Park. The bowling section paid tribute to the consistently high standard of the greens that they had played on under Neil’s supervision.
Forthcoming bowling fixtures include 24th July Tarporley Probus, home; 27th July Tudors U3A, away; 8th August MH Vets, home; 28th August, local Derby against Saxon Cross Probus.
Thirty members and their guests recently enjoyed lunch at Domvilles Farm, Audley. On Wednesday, 12th September, members and their guests plan to visit Llandudno.
The Probus Club of Sandbach meets the second Tuesday in the month at Bradwall Village Hall. Meetings begin at 10.30am. Further details at www.probus-sandbach.org.uk
