At the monthly club meeting the subject of the speaker was “Hearing Explained”. An explanation of the auditory system was provided and some of the numerous reasons for hearing loss. An interesting discussion followed.
Although unable to attend, Probus member Paul Carson was congratulated on receiving his campaign medals from WW2 , Paul was a Warrant Officer and rear gunner in Bomber Command. After the war ended Paul served in the Middle East conflict for three years. Due to being in hospital Paul overlooked his medals but his family recently encouraged him to apply for them.
The bowlers continue to enjoy their winning ways. On the 31st of May in light drizzle an away game at Tarporley Probus ended in victory for Sandbach 84 – 75. On the 6th of June the opposition were Marriott House Veterans who had been invincible for three years but on this occasion Sandbach Probus proved too good and were worthy winners 148 – 137. The next event is at the Nags Head, Haughton on the 12th of July.
On the 13th of June 47 members, wives and friends visited The Black Country Living Museum. This proved to be a unique opportunity to experience the working and living conditions of the industrial past. You could explore the coal mine or the famous canal caverns then visit the bakery, brass foundry, chain maker or the school and of course lots of old shops and houses. Finally to the fish and chip shop and a glass of real ale and time to reflect on an excellent visit.
