This month Brian Price ex. Cruise Director on numerous cruise ships gave a very interesting and amusing account of his world travels. Some of the famous travellers included Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Brian recalls that after dinner Elizabeth would return to her stateroom but Richard preferred to drink with Brian in the Pig & Whistle crew bar. Other famous passengers included Frankie Howard, John Cleese, Ronnie Corbett, Terry Waite and Rod Stewart. Brian’s favourite two guests were Vera Lynn and Bob Hope. Now retired and living in north Wales Brian concluded with a sigh “That somehow life just isn’t the same”.
Our own “Director of Tourism”, Graham Hannen, has now completed the arrangements for the Probus mini break to Norfolk which includes reservations at the world famous Thursford Christmas Spectacular. In addition there will be visits to Melton Mowbray, Norwich and Cambridge.
Eighteen indoor bowlers visited Shrewsbury for a most enjoyable three hour session, coach John Hope was particularly impressed by the two senior team members, Norman Rogers and Jack Allday, although both of them are in their nineties they performed splendidly for a full three hours. Jack Allday enjoyed further success when the Marriott House Vets. were the opponents at Yoxall Village Hall, Jack and partner Arnold Robinson won their game by eight points to nil. The match ended in victory for the Probus by 56 points to 41 points.
It was a most enjoyable afternoons bowling with the Vets. generously providing refreshments.
