The club was very privileged to have as the guest speaker this month Mrs Maureen Williams from the world famous Williams grocery business. The Williams family are no ordinary grocers, for behind the very attractive shop front on the Sandbach cobbles lies an amazing story of a dynasty going back to the last century.
Generations of this family have been award winning cheese makers worldwide with son Daniel now heading that side of the business. The members were amazed to hear of the huge variety of cheeses some 200 and counting manufactured and sold worldwide. When asked how much cheese they produce, Maureen replied over 30 tons per week.
Many family members are leading judges and stewards at cheese competitions usually held in conjunction with agricultural shows where gold medals and gold cups have been won. Maureen indicated that they are barred from exhibiting at one show in order that someone else can have a chance of winning the prestigious prizes.
Having tasted the samples she and her daughter in law Rebecca brought along it is clear that it is the quality and variety that has brought them success.
A heartfelt vote of thanks was proposed by Bob Mynett.
There is no meeting in December as the members and their guest will be feasting themselves at the annual Christmas lunch on the 13th at the Hunters Lodge Hotel.
