Wednesday 18 April 2018 “The Museum of Carpet” Tour PT 050/18
Have you ever wondered how the numerous patterns and designs are incorporated into the many thousands of carpets on sale each year in the UK? Well on this tour everything will be explained for you.
Kidderminster has been the home to carpet making for over 300 years and on this fully guided tour in Stour Vale Mill you will see how carpet making has developed from using hand looms to fully automated looms producing some beautiful designs for both Axminster and Wilton carpets. You will also have the opportunity to design your own carpet on computer and have the finished product projected on to the floor! A buffet lunch is included. Booking forms available from 13 February 2018
Wednesday 6 June 2018 “The British Ironwork Centre” Tour PT 052/18
Undoubtedly one of the most unusual venues we have ever visited and probably one which you will never forget. The British Ironwork Centre is dedicated to promoting the diversity in metal working, from seeing the blacksmith with his forge making unforgettable shapes and designs to the opposite end of the scale watching the jeweller designing and making the finest pieces of jewellery. All can be seen here. As you meander your way around the parklands you will encounter leaping antelope, flocks of flamingos and graceful full size golden giraffes among many other animals in the largest metal safari you will probably ever see! An enormous range of collectables are available in the Emporium, you will be amazed. Lunch is available in the excellent Forge Café.
To complete the day on a relaxing note we board the Sabrina boat for a leisurely cruise with refreshments around Shrewsbury.
Booking forms available from 10 April 2018
Wednesday 3 October 2018 “The Terracotta Army Marches on Liverpool” Tour PT 051/18
This is a major exhibition which will be coming to the UK for the first time in over 30 years and will be staged at the World Museum in Liverpool. China’s Terracotta Warriors were found in the tomb of China’s first Emperor Qin Shihuangdi and date back to 206BC and these together with other artefacts never seen before in the UK will be on display. As this is such a rare visit to Europe the demand for tickets has been huge but we booked this venue and date in 2016 to ensure our members and friends have an opportunity to enjoy this very special occasion. Booking forms available from 10 July 2018
“Heart of Wales” Tour PT 053/18 on 2 – 6 September 2018
An area often overlooked is the destination for our main holiday this year. The town of Llandrindod Wells enjoys some of the most spectacular scenery in the whole of the UK and if we add to this some special venues together with a performance for our members and friends by one of the country’s top male voice choirs, then we have all the ingredients for a very special holiday indeed.
Among the venues to be visited is Chirk Castle, one of the very few castles built by King Edward 1 which has been continuously occupied since its completion in 1295. Another venue will involve a fully guided tour of the magnificent Elan Valley and also we will be welcomed into the home of Mr Paul Humpherston and family at the Hall at Abbey-Cwm- Hir. A morning visit to the seaside town of Aberystwyth will be followed by joining the Vale of Rheidol Railway for the stunning journey to Devil’s Bridge. Brecon will be our destination on another day followed by a drive over the bleak and sometimes foreboding Brecon Beacons National Park to visit the Penderyn Distillery, the only Welsh whisky distillery in Wales.
Perhaps the highlight of this fully escorted holiday will be the performance we have arranged by the internationally famous Builth Male Voice Choir who will perform a concert in the hotel for our holiday group.
The hotel chosen for this holiday will be the AA 4 star Metropole Hotel which is situated in the centre of Llandrindod Wells. In addition to its high reputation for good food, this hotel enjoys the facilities of a gym, sauna and spa and an excellent swimming pool for guests.
This holiday is now fully booked and a waiting list applies.
