Probus Travel Tours for 2019 (1st Edition)

Wednesday 10 April 2019 “National Memorial Arboretum and Lichfield Cathedral” Tour PT 054/19

We have deliberately avoided programming a visit to this venue previously but now feel with all the changes which have taken place here during the last twelve months or so and the maturity of the venue, it is now appropriate for a visit. It is planned that our tour will include a visit to the Remembrance Chapel for a short service together with a Road Train tour of the numerous memorials.

In the afternoon we will visit Lichfield Cathedral, the only English three spire medieval cathedral and explore its stunning interior.

Booking forms available from 12 February 2019.

Wednesday 19 June 2019 “ Summer Celebration Tour” PT 055/19

It is now ten years since the Probus Travel Club was formed and in this time have visited well over 100 venues and we thought we would celebrate this milestone by organising a “special” tour. Full details will not be available of the venue until the booking forms are issued, but the tour will include an unusual and “special” visit and will include a full Afternoon Tea to be enjoyed at a top class hotel. This tour will be heavily subsidised by the Travel Club as a thank you for the support of all our loyal members and friends.

Booking forms will be available from 9 April 2019

Wednesday 27 November 2019 “Christmas visit to the Trafford Centre” Tour PT 056/19

For some time now many members (especially the ladies) have been enquiring whether we could include a Christmas shopping tour in our programme. Well this is the time and at one of the very best venues available.

We will ensure the storage underneath the coach is kept empty in anticipation!

Booking forms are available from 10 September 2019

Most of our day tours and our holiday each year are fully booked within days of launch so please book early and return the booking forms as soon as possible after they are issued.

Details of all tours are available from Graham Hannen on 01270 764777 or email

“Treasures of Suffolk” Holiday Tour PT 057/19 on 2 – 6 September 2019

The county of Suffolk is the destination for our Probus Holiday this year, rich in history and with venues unique to this part of the world, this area offers so much for the visitor. As we always choose the very best places to visit in any given area we are sure you will enjoy this short break of five days (4nights).

On our journey to Suffolk we will make a lunch time stop at Burghley House in Stamford, where the famous Burghley Horse Trials are held each year. Following our tour of the house we continue the journey to our hotel in Ipswich.

The hotel chosen for this holiday is the AA 4 star Novotel Hotel which is conveniently situated in the centre of this attractive town. This is a very modern hotel with all the amenities you would expect from such a large group of hotels. Just a five minute walk from the entrance is the town centre with all its excellent old buildings including the Ancient House, built in 1410 and which is simply stunning. Your camera will be well used here. You will have time to explore Ipswich on your own on this holiday and maybe walk in the footsteps of Lord Nelson, Charles Dickens (he wrote The Pickwick Papers here), John Constable and Cardinal Wolsey.

Other venues included will be to the National Trust’s Sutton Hoo and Edith Pretty’s house. East Bergholt and Flatford Mill in the beautiful Dedham Vale will also be included where we visit the site of John Constable’s The Hay Wain painting. A guided walking tour will be provided here by The National Trust.

Suffolk was once very famous for its wool towns and we will include visits to the very best at Lavenham, Long Melford and Clare. Lavenham has over 320 listed buildings in the town and you will be amazed with the number of timber framed houses, pubs and hotels with twisted timbers and listing at all angles with age. A typical “chocolate box” town.

Transport has played a very important part in the life of Suffolk people and our destination here will be the old trolley bus depot in the town which is now used as the Ipswich Transport Museum.

On our return journey we will visit the lovely town of Newmarket famous as the home of horse racing where we will have a fully guided tour of The National Stud followed by lunch at the Wavertree Restaurant before continuing our journey home

Booking forms are available from 8 January 2019.
